Sacramento, CA – Assemblymember Mike Fong (D – Alhambra) issued the following statement on Governor Newsom’s May Revision of the 2025-26 budget:

“The Governor’s May Revision highlights how the ongoing economic chaos caused by the federal administration continues to create negative impacts for the State of California and its people, casting a cloud of uncertainty for the immediate future.

“During this unpredictable time, I appreciate the Governor’s proposal in the May Revision to reduce the 7.95% state agency cut to 3% for the University of California and the California State University. These cuts could have undone a decade’s worth of investment improving graduation rates, affordability, and accessibility.

“Higher education has the power and promise to transform lives. Students must be able to access courses and have resources to be able to complete their education in a timely manner and without a lot of debt. Our state’s wellbeing relies on their success. As the Chair of the Assembly Higher Education Committee and a member of the Budget Subcommittee on Education Finance, I look forward to working with my legislative colleagues and the Administration to pass a budget that prioritizes students,” said Assemblymember Mike Fong.
