Increasing Data/Privacy Awareness

Thursday, January 30, 2014

(Sacramento) – Assemblymember Ed Chau (D-Monterey Park) wrote House Resolution 27 declaring January 28, 2014 as California Data Privacy Day. Assemblymember Chau says Data Privacy Day, which is celebrated annually on January 28th around the world in honor of the first international treaty dealing with privacy and data protection, is intended to increase awareness of privacy and data protection issues among consumers, organizations and government officials. “In light of the recent disclosure of the NSA surveillance programs and also the announcement of commercial drone testing and the recent security breach of millions of retail customers, it is more important than ever for everyone to be aware of the need for privacy protection and responsible data management,” said Assemblymember Chau.
