ASSEMBLYMEMBER ED CHAU DENOUNCES ACTION BY FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION TO REPEAL NET NEUTRALITY RULES
SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Ed Chau (D-Monterey Park), Chair of the Assembly Committee on Privacy and Consumer Protection, expresses concern over the recent action by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to repeal Net Neutrality Rules.
“The decision made by the FCC to dismantle Obama-era net neutrality protections over the will of the vast majority of Americans means that broadband companies can largely do whatever they want to consumers. Instead of the certainty and fairness we’ve enjoyed, now we have to worry about erosion of our civil rights and diminished competitiveness of the internet economy. Worse still, federal preemption is being used to keep the states from protecting their own consumers from Washington’s mad dash off the deregulatory cliff. Sadly, the FCC’s approach is not so much a ‘light touch’ as it is ‘turning a blind eye’.”
